Life is Fleeting: Tap Into Your Purpose

Last night, as I sat alone in the family room, I found myself reflecting on the past. Memories of a time when my grandparents were alive and the house was filled with their love, joy, and laughter came flooding back. I thought about my mother, too, and how different life felt when she was here. But the reality is that those days are gone. I can’t go back. They won’t be coming back.

This realization reminded me of a truth we often avoid: life is fleeting. Our time here is incredibly short. While we’re here, it’s essential that we embrace our purpose and live it out fully.

The Power of Preparation

Think about Jesus. He knew exactly who He was and what His calling was, but He didn’t begin His ministry until He was 33 years old. He spent decades preparing, aligning with His purpose, and walking in His identity. When the time came, He only had three years to execute His mission—but what a powerful three years they were. Those three years have impacted the world for thousands of years and continue to change lives today.

Walking in Purpose

Consider Martin Luther King Jr. Yesterday, we celebrated his legacy on Martin Luther King Day. Dr. King didn’t live a long life; he didn’t grow old. But in the time he had, he walked in his purpose with boldness and passion. Because of his obedience to that calling, he changed the course of history and inspired generations to dream, hope, and act.

You might be thinking, “But my calling won’t impact the entire world.” Maybe not—but your purpose is meant to impact your world: your family, your community, the people around you. And that matters.

It’s Okay to Be in the Preparation Phase

It’s okay if you’re still preparing, still discovering what your purpose is. Jesus prepared for decades before stepping into His calling. What matters is that you’re intentional about aligning yourself with your purpose and preparing for the moment when it’s time to execute.

Because once this life is over, there’s no coming back. This is it. This is the time we’ve been given to make an impact, to live boldly, and to fulfill the purpose God has placed in us.

Make Your Time Count

While this life is fleeting, eternity is not. Eternity is forever—far longer than the short time we have here. So while you’re able, while you have breath in your lungs and strength in your body, walk in your calling. Pursue your purpose. Impact the world, or at least your corner of it.

Time is fleeting. Use it wisely.
